Distributed generation, batteries, inverter-based resources: the energy transition is rewriting how grids behave. Help Europe's TSOs and DSOs keep them observable, predictable, and resilient.

As an Electrical Engineer at Kickstage, you will work at the intersection of power systems and modern software. Our customers include TSOs and DSOs across Europe, and you will help them tackle the analytical core of grid operations: state estimation, load flow, and network modeling.

You won't just run studies—you'll help shape the tools that run them. We primarily use and develop open-source software, so your work won't disappear into a black box: you'll build on and contribute to the tools the power systems community actually uses. Working closely with our software engineers, you'll bring the electrical engineering depth that turns complex grid calculations into reliable, production-ready applications. And if you want to share your findings with the wider community, we'll support you in publishing research along the way.

In line with our uncompromising focus, you'll work on one dedicated project at a time, with the time and environment needed to deliver excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and validate grid analyses, with a focus on state estimation and load flow calculations.
  • Build and maintain network models for transmission and distribution grids.
  • Translate power system domain knowledge into requirements and algorithms for our software teams.
  • Contribute to the open-source tools we use and develop.
  • Verify results against real-world grid behavior and industry standards.
  • Support our TSO and DSO customers as the domain expert on grid analysis topics.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field.
  • Several years of professional experience in power system analysis (mid to senior level).
  • Solid understanding of grid analysis methods, especially state estimation and load flow.
  • Hands-on experience with power system analysis tools—whether pandapower, PowSyBl, PowerFactory, or similar.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fully remote setup.
  • Fluent English is a must.
  • Located in the EU.

Nice to haves

  • Working experience with or at a TSO, or deep familiarity with TSO processes and requirements.
  • Software development experience (e.g., Python, Java, or contributions to open-source power system libraries).
  • Experience with SCADA/EMS environments or grid measurement data.
  • Interest in publishing research—we'll actively support publications and conference contributions.
  • German skills.

Salary

  • We are willing to pay significantly above average for the right candidate.

We're looking forward to welcome you as part of the crew!
